News of Manchester City’s Champions League ban has rocked football.

On Friday, UEFA ruled the club has seriously breached Financial Fair Play rules and as it stands, they will not be allowed compete in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 competitions.

On top of that, the reigning Premier League champions have been fined €30 million in what is a landmark case.

It didn’t take long for football fans to pile in on Man City once the punishment was handed out.

As you can imagine, rival supporters are revelling in their misery and the papers have been full of reports that the club is in turmoil, about to fall apart.

But one man who won’t be drawn into the storm is Jurgen Klopp.

The Liverpool boss probably has more reason than most to enjoy the news, but instead, gave an incredibly classy response when asked about City’s punishment.

“It was a shock when it came out. Big wow. The only thing I can say, I’m a football coach, so I can speak about football,” Klopp said after beating Norwich.

Klopp has been speaking about Man City's ban

“What Pep [Guardiola] and Man City did in England is exceptional, absolutely exceptional. The rest, I don’t know. You believe the people you work with, that’s how it is.

“I can imagine it’s really difficult for the sportspeople to understand. I really feel for them, for Pep and the players.

“It’s the first verdict, they will appeal and we’ll see what happens then. It’s obviously serious, otherwise, UEFA wouldn’t react like that.

Klopp has praised Guardiola

“The football they played and play was exceptional and will [continue to] be exceptional.”

Nothing but class from Klopp there. The German continues to carry himself as one of the most likeable figures in football.

It’s clear he has genuine respect for everything Man City have achieved on the pitch and despite the fact they are Liverpool’s biggest rivals right now, can’t help but feel for them.
